    About AirCARE1

AirCARE1 was started by Denise Waye, the company’s founder and president. Waye began her career in the medical field as a registered nurse. One day, she was asked to accompany a pilot on a medical transport flight. Waye found that she enjoyed the challenge and the excitement of being a flight nurse. After accompanying many patients to their final destinations, shenoted that there were flaws in the flights’ safety standards and operational practices. When she pointed out the issues to management, she was told to either accept them or start her own company. Waye opted for the latter, which set the stage for AirCARE1. The company’s first flight launched in 2005. Thousands more domestic and international flights have been completed since then. AirCARE1 has its own fleet of luxurious Learjet aircraft, which are operated under the company’s own FAA Air Carrier certificate. Although AirCARE1 is a much larger company today than when it first started, its employees still proudly uphold the same values of safety, customer service, and honesty that were the pillars of the company’s foundation.

    AirCARE1’s Commitment to Safety

Since a commitment to safety is one of AirCARE1’s core values, the company’s safety training is as good as it gets. The pilots and flight crew on board every flight are some of the most highly trained professionals in the industry. In addition to coming from a background of quality education, they receive ongoing training as mandated by the FAA to make sure that they follow current industry best practices. Rest assured that wherever you or a loved one go, you’ll also be accompanied by a highly-trained staff of medical personnel. During their first round of training, staff members learn critical skills like best patient loading practices, patient evaluation, fatigue factors, flight stressors, and much more. Continuing education covers topics including cardiovascular emergencies, infection control, burn management, and critical care transport. Along with receiving training in these medical areas, the staff performs essential tasks like regulating the cabin pressure and temperature according to the patient’s needs. During flight, another safety is measure is added through the use of Reduced Vertical Separation systems, which allows the Learjets to fly at a higher altitude than standard commercial flights. This reduces turbulence, which improves patient safety and creates a smoother, safer, shorter, and more enjoyable ride for everyone.

    Industry Leading Dual Accreditation

There are many things that set AirCARE1 apart from the competition, but having a rare dual accreditation is at the top of the list. Most companies receive one of two possible certifications, which are called CAMTS and EURAMI. CAMTS is short for the “Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.” It is a non-profit organization that recognizes companies who provide their patients with exceptional customer care and safety. EURAMI is the acronym for “European Aeromedical Institute.” It is a non-profit entity comprised of medical professionals from nearly 30 countries across Europe. The organization continually develops higher levels of patient care and safety standards, and it awards the prestigious EURAMI certification to companies who meet its criteria. It is unusual for companies to hold both certifications, but AirCARE1 is one of the proud few that does. Additionally, AirCARE1 is only one of two air ambulance service providers chosen from the United States to be part of the International Assistance Group (IAG).

    Our Focus on Holistic Care

With a focus on holistic care and soothing remedies offered during AirCARE1 flights, you’ll feel more like you’re in a hotel than on an aircraft! Patient comfort is taken seriously, both to enhance safety and make the patient, who may be distressed or nervous about flying, feel more comfortable. While in flight, patients have access to several amenities to make the flight more pleasant. Headphones with relaxing music are one option. Aromatherapy is used to reduce stress and anxiety, and hand massages keep blood circulating while reducing tension levels. Travelers are welcome to bring their own music and a movie selection is available for longer flights.

    Accommodating All Types of Patients

No matter what category of patient you or a loved one fall into, you will be well cared for by the flight staff at AirCARE1. Critical care is offered for the youngest neonates and infants, including the most fragile and vulnerable children who need the most intensive and specialized care. State-of-the-art medical equipment, which includes a NICU incubator and a highly trained staff of NICU nurses, work together to bring your little one the most advanced neonatal care systems outside of a hospital during the flight.

Pediatric patients also get special attention. Children have a different physiological and emotional response to flying than adults do. Therefore, we offer a specialized range of equipment, along with a medical team that is dedicated to providing care for children, for every pediatric flight. To ensure the highest level of patient care, AirCARE1’s flight staff does a thorough assessment to provide the most age-appropriate services. This includes managing anxiety, easing physical discomfort, and ensuring a safe flight.

Adults and geriatric patients are also well cared for during their AirCARE1 flight. Geriatric patients may suffer from psychological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia, which can make flying especially frightening. Therefore, the staff is trained to make sure each patient feels relaxed and safe while flying. Meanwhile, the geriatric medical specialists on the flight take proper precautions to make sure that the patient is monitored and properly cared for. Heart rate and blood pressure are regularly monitored throughout the flight. The medical crew will also keep an eye on the patient’s skin to make sure it stays healthy. Since elderly patients are subject to serious conditions like heart failure, respiratory distress, and other ailments during flight, oxygen is immediately available in case the crew needs to use it. Standard medications can be administered during the flight if necessary, and the patient may also get medication to reduce levels of stress and anxiety if desired.

Despite the fact that millions of Americans are classified as obese or morbidly obese, many healthcare facilities are surprisingly not properly equipped to safely and effectively provide them with quality care. Normally, transporting bariatric patients is a challenge for air medical transport companies. But not with AirCARE1, which has special systems designed just for those patients. The doors on the Learjet fleet are all wider than industry standard, which makes it easy to load heavier patients safely, head-first. To make rides safer and more comfortable, patients are placed on stretchers that have extra padding. The extra padding helps to prevent fat emboli during flight. Prior to takeoff, the patient receives 100% oxygen for about 15 minutes, which also reduces the risk of emboli. Since bariatric patients may become uncomfortable in enclosed spaces, they may be given light sedation or pain medication to feel more relaxed and comfortable during the flight. Adding to the ease of both patients and their families is the fact that the loading ramp and stretcher system used by AirCARE1 are both specially designed to accommodate patients weighing up to 450 pounds.

    Hospital-Grade Medical Equipment

Whether you are dealing with broken bones, a heart condition, or any other serious medical condition, you’ll be treated with only the best possible care flying with AirCARE1. Every Learjet is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment that is normally only available in hospitals. This ensures that you or your loved one gets continuous, reliable care during the flight. Everything from NICU incubators to oxygen and heart monitors are onboard to ensure that the patient’s vitals are monitored and that he or she has access to immediate emergency care if necessary. A team of skilled medical professionals flies with each patient to the end destination to ensure a safe and relaxing flight.

    Smooth & Comfortable Flights

If you are used to flying in a commercial plane when you travel, flying in a Learjet will be a very different experience, and one that’s much better! The Learjets used by AirCARE1 have quiet, spacious, and luxurious cabins with plush seats and amenities. There is plenty of room for traveling family members to spread out and relax. The ride is also smoother, faster, and more pleasant than you will get on a commercial aircraft, as the Learjets are specially equipped to travel at altitudes above 41,000 feet. This makes the flight noticeably less turbulent. Learjets are a great choice for domestic flights, but they are especially good options for flying overseas since they require fewer fuel stops than most aircraft.

    Commercial Medical Escort Services

Sometimes, you might not need the full medical services of a medical transport flight, but you may still need some medical assistance to get to your destination. If this is your situation, consider getting a commercial travel companion. Knowing that returning home with an injury or illness is a stressful event, a commercial travel companion arranges all aspects of travel, including getting private sedan or ambulance transportation to the airport and booking flights for the patient. Travel companions also make sure that the patient gets all medical clearance necessary before flying. Onboard, the medical companion provides continual medical care as needed. For convenience, travel arrangements are also made for any accompanying family members.
